Tanushree Dutta: In the year 2018, the Me Too movement shook the Hindi film industry. During that time, Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta had accused Nana Patekar of sexually exploiting her on the sets of her film ‘Horn OK Please’ for the second time and created a ruckus. This year, there has been a lot of stir in the Malayalam film industry after the Hema Committee report.
Many actresses have revealed incidents of sexual exploitation that happened to them. After which an FIR has also been lodged with the police against many Malayalam directors and actors. Some people think that the MeToo movement will have a positive impact on the film industry but it has not happened. Many actresses even stopped getting work after speaking on the MeToo movement. Tanushree Dutta herself revealed that she has been sitting idle for 6 years.

In fact, in an interview given to News 18 Shows, Tanushree revealed that two MeToo accused approached her to work in their films but she refused them because she did not want to set a wrong example. The actress said, “What is needed is that every actor is ready to sacrifice a little for a cause. In December 2018, a very big producer offered me a film. He has made some of the biggest films. But their director was a #MeToo accused and I immediately rejected the opportunity. Who is losing in this deal? I.

She further says, “I have not worked in films for a long time.” Tanushree further said, “I am only working in appearances and brand events. I want to play lead roles in films based on women empowerment. But since his name came up during MeToo, I did not want to take that offer. After a few years such an incident happened again. In between, I had signed some good projects but I was targeted very badly and my projects were harmed.
MeToo accused had offered a film to Tanushree in the year 2023 also
In another incident, last year also Tanushree was offered a film by a Kolkata director but the actress rejected it with the same excuse. The actress said, “I liked the story and the role was fantastic. I thought this was a great opportunity for me to restart my acting career with a Bengali film. A week later I came to know that his name had also come up during #MeToo. The narration was done and I had put forward some conditions, which they agreed to. I was happy that someone was working diligently on the script to make my character more prominent.
According to Tanushree, this was an opportunity for the film maker to whitewash his image after allegations of sexual misconduct. The actress said, “Why did he come to me? He thought that Meetu has been around for a long time and if he takes me in his film, it will feel like I am supporting him. He wanted to change his image through me. Maybe, he also thought that since no one is working with him in Bengal, he will work with a Bollywood actress and make a big identity for himself.
Tanushree had refused the film
Tanushree further says, ‘There was no case against her but the entire industry had believed that woman. Since Bengal is an open-minded society, it is understandable why they believed him and supported him. And if I did that film, it would look like the leader of #MeToo is now supporting an accused. Are. I politely declined. An agency was involved in this. I told him that I wanted to let the film go. I also consulted my father to get his opinion on this matter and he told me that it would not be morally right to do a film with someone who is an accused.
